One thing I hate about corporate life is, working Saturdays. It is dreadful. In my previous organisation I used to work alternate Saturdays. And the worst part was, my husband has all Saturdays off. Yes, I know you will empathize with me. I used to literally drag myself to work and wait for the sun to set so I can go home.
One such Saturday evening, I reach home to see my husband engrossed in his phone, checking some recipe and at that point I knew, I am in for a big treat.
I asked him, what’s cooking?? He just ignored me by saying, ‘you don’t worry about it, tell me how was your day?’ So as usual I started blabbering about everything that happened throughout the day and other random things, forgetting about the recipe he was checking.
We were in the weekend mood. Watching movies, sipping hot tea and some snacks to go with it. The only good thing about working Saturdays was getting a ready hot cuppa tea. Because the other days I had to put in efforts to prepare it as I reach home before him.
After some time, I asked, what should we cook for dinner? Let us make something interesting. He said, ‘I told you not to worry’. Just Netflix & Chill. So, like an obedient wife I sat watching a movie while enjoying my tea. He went to the kitchen and started preparing something. I went in to check but he just asked me to go away. I was getting curious, tried peeping in to see the ingredients to take a guess but he shut the door of the kitchen and told me not to enter at all.
He came in the living room once the preparations were done and handed a glass to me. A freshly prepared watermelon basil mojito. While I was enjoying my drink, he started preparing the dinner and after some time finally called me in.

There it was, dinner table set with two delicious looking plates. There was Corn on the cob, grilled chicken, grilled tomato and Jambalaya. I had no clue what Jambalaya is, so I did some research. Jambalaya is a popular Louisiana-origin dish of Spanish, French (especially Provençal cuisine), and West African influence, consisting mainly of meat and vegetables mixed with rice. It was delicious. We enjoyed every bit of it.
We had our dinner chit chatting about random things. (Mostly me talking and he listening. He does this trick. Starts some topic so that I could talk about it further and he could relish his food).
I said to him, it always surprises me how you search these rare dishes and cook them so well. He just smiled and said, you don’t worry about it, you just Netflix and chill!
